Deacon's School House Rock Musical!

Last night was my 4th and final time of watching the "School House Rocks" musical at Eagle Springs Elementary. All of my kids have done this musical and Deacon was excited to have his turn. His class, Mrs. Zorkics class, sang two songs "Interplanet Janet" and "Interjections" He was the earth for the first song and was carried off the stage in the last song. He had fun playing the parts and did a good job!

He is a very confident child and I am glad he thinks he can do anything!
Only 2 more years with an elementary student. We have to cherish the next two years. It all goes by so quickly!

Channing is 12!

Channing absolutely loves her birthday! She looks forward to it for weeks and then always counts down the hours! She had a soccer game the day before and scored a nice goal for her birthday weekend.

She was so excited to have a party with her friends. She invited some friends to come over to watch her favorite movie "The Parent Trap," have cake and ice-cream and do karaoke. She decorated the house by herself.

She is sweet and loves to celebrate.
She made them popcorn bags and got herself a party hat and tutu ;)
She helped me make the cupcakes and right now loves all things pink!
The party was a success and the kids had fun.

On her birthday morning we had breakfast and headed to church. During church she made sure to check the clock and let me know at 12:41 when she was officially 12 :)

Her grandma made her a "chip" cake because she loves chips so much! She almost never finishes dessert, but always wants chips.
She requested a brownie cake and ice cream for her actual day.
Her grandparents joined us and we celebrated and played games.

Channing is such a light to everyone. She is happy and sunny and always wants to help others out. She is kind and always writing notes and thinking about how she can make other people happy. She loves Takis and sprite. She puts salt on everything! She plays the piano, sings in the school choir, plays on a soccer team, is an excellent student, does dance at school, and is in the youth presidency at church. She always stalls going to bed, she is constantly singing and has a beautiful voice and is so brave to share it often. She loves math and the color pink. She loves beanie boos and practicing calligraphy. Overall she is such a sweet soul and does not match the typical fiery personality that is associated with red heads. We sure love her and she is the best helper to everyone in our family! Here is to another year of our amazing Channing!

Updates

These past few weeks have been busy as all Spring is. Ella decided to cut her hair again and donated 12 inches!! It looks so cute and she is so brave!

Her hair got so long!
We also celebrated Easter together and that day Cavin's birthday with my parents and sister. I love Easter. It is a wonderful holiday filled with so much hope!
I have a wonderful crew to call my own!
Easter baskets and fun!
For my birthday Stacey bought me Legally Blonde the Musical tickets. We don't get to go out together very often as we are so busy with our kids, but it was such a fun night out and I am so glad we got to go!
We used to watch the movie in high school and loved it. She put up with me having to use the scooter and crutches to get around and it was a much needed outing and time together! It will be a fun memory!

Cavin's 15th Birthday

Cavin is now 15 years old! We celebrated his birthday a few times and hopefully he felt loved and remembered! He had a party with his friends where they went to see the new Super Mario Bros movie. Then they came back to the house and played games and had cake and ice cream. He has a great group of friends, so he had a fun time.

Our friends were kind enough to put up a birthday sign for him which was super nice!
We celebrated with his friends, my extended family, and then again on his actual birthday!
He still loves red velvet cake like his mama and soda like his father :) He says "it depends on the consistency" after about anything! His other catch phrase is "Like really dude" in the accent of an Indian person! He is funny...and random :) He is still playing the cello in the high school orchestra. He also just finished up soccer season and started Spring football season which really just is a lot of practicing until Fall football. He has been kicking a lot more and hitting 45 yards more consistently. He still refs soccer games on the weekends when he can. He also loves math still and his grades are incredible. His lowest grade is a 98 in orchestra since it's subjective! I thought he would have a harder time in high school with all advanced placement classes, but even with seminary, Shakespeare, football, soccer, reffing, and orchestra he is managing well. He gets his braces off in 2 months and has grown so much in the past year. He is almost 6'1 but not quite. He weighs 175 pounds and has built a lot of muscle this year. His favorite color is now orange. He is always snacking and especially loves eating all the granola bars! He absolutely loves "The Lamb of God"music and it is often playing. He is a great kid and we sure love having him in our family!

Foot Surgery

On Friday, March 24, 2023 I had the Kidner procedure performed on my foot. I have had pain in my foot since the family reunion in 2021 when I sprained my ankle water skiing. I have an accessory navicular bone in my foot and when trauma hits the area it can cause chronic inflammation and unfortunately that was the case for me. The posterior tibial tendon was constantly inflamed no matter how much I would rehab or ice it. I would run on it then struggle to walk for a couple days and couldn't hike or go on long walks without pain. So, unfortunately the injury never healed and after 18 months of trying everything to heal it, the surgery was the best option. I decided to do it in March in hopes that the 8-10 weeks of recovery would be sufficient and I would be healed before the kids are out of school for the summer.

I wasn't overly nervous for the procedure as I knew that is what I needed to do, mostly just very unexcited about the recovery waiting process.

The bone has gotten so large and the swelling so bad that it looks like I have two ankle bones.

Waiting for the surgery..
The surgery went well without any complications.
I was pretty sleepy from the anesthesia the first couple days, but then have done well since. The pain, thankfully, hasn't been bad and I'm so ready to get going on the rehab process.
This injury has been painful for me in many ways. The family reunion was a difficult one for our family and our extended family has been pretty broken since the reunion. To me this pain in my foot has felt like a physical reminder to me everyday of the pain I feel about our family. I yearn to have my brothers in my life and for healing to take place. For now, I pray that if I can heal this physical pain and move forward, maybe my heart can process and heal as well. Here is to a speedy recovery and me being back in running shoes before I know it!

Turning 40

On March 16th I entered a new decade and turned 40. I have been dreading this day for a couple years. I have not been very excited about turning 40 and everything that goes with it. I hear often from my friends, well, now that you're 40 everything goes downhill from here. Well, starting it off a week later with foot surgery wasn't helping my excitement, but for a couple days I tried to enjoy celebrating another year of life.

My mom ordered a sign for me which was really nice.
We had birthday donuts and went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch with Deacon, Ragnar, and my parents. By the time we finished the other kids were back from their youth camps for the week.
Ragnar bought me an outdoor loveseat which I have been wanting.
I got a new phone and a pedicure from my mom/dad and sisters which I took the girls with me to do.
Saturday we went with a few friends to top golf to play and celebrate.
We had a fun time visiting and being together.
Having a birthday on spring break is hard each year cause most everyone is always out of town.
My mom hosted a dinner with everyone when they were all back in town and it was a simple few days of celebration. I pray I can embrace the new decade and that I can still live many years enjoying what I love to do and that my body is strong and healthy.
